New methods to learn English via music

15 Sep 2023

We discussed techniques to improve your English while resting and watching TV. Many people like listening to music in their spare time, and we will show you how you can learn English by listening to music this week.

I'm sure we all remember the songs we learned as children. Perhaps you know "Heads, shoulders, knees, and toes" in English or your native tongue. They appear to be imprinted into our minds and cannot be forgotten! (I also remember the names of dinosaurs, but I can't think of any songs about them!)

How might listening to music help you improve your English?

Listening to songs is another excellent technique for language learners to expand their vocabulary and enhance their listening abilities. Do something you like while also learning English. We can't guarantee that listening to music will help you learn English, but it's an excellent alternative if you need more time.

Naturally, you can learn English faster if you study at home and take English classes with professional and certified teachers. However, think about your favorite music tracks and check out our recommendations and ideas for learning English by listening to music.

Methods for learning English through music

1. Listen to music (primarily English songs) regularly

This is relatively straightforward! There is an almost limitless selection of English songs available, and all you need to do is locate the optimum moment in your daily routine to learn English via music. Because it's so simple to turn on the television at home, you might choose to listen to music on your commute to work or at the gym.

To increase your English abilities, all you need is a consistent pattern. For example, this is feasible if you listen to music while driving to work. Naturally, listening to music rather than reading Facebook postings would help you improve your English abilities faster!

2. Play your favorite tunes again and over

If you enjoy music, you have a playlist of your favorite tunes. You can make another list of your favorite songs solely in English that you'll listen to repeatedly.

With repetition, we begin to recall the song's beat and even parts of the lyrics. Repetition is also an excellent technique to improve English vocabulary, so we recognize the lyrics of songs we last heard years ago.

3. Look up the lyrics online

It might be challenging to grasp all the words when listening to music. Even though I am a native English speaker, I occasionally struggle to get the terms. I recommend searching for the track's name and 'lyrics' online to discover the songs. You may even search for individual music on YouTube, as they sometimes have pieces.

You may enhance your English vocabulary and listening abilities by reading the lyrics and listening to the music simultaneously. You may also use the songs to assess your listening abilities by listening and then reading the words to ensure comprehension.

4. Make a list of terms and expressions to help you improve your English vocabulary

Listening to music also expands your English vocabulary, but you can comprehend only some words. It is preferable to initially have a basic idea before delving into specific phrases and idioms.

Making a list of new terminology may also be helpful, and we have a few suggestions. Please write down the new term or expression, its definition (in English or your native language), and an example sentence that uses the new vocabulary. Then, try using the new term or expression on your own. One of the most effective methods to enhance your English abilities is repetition and practice.

5. Use songs to polish your English pronunciation

Because English is not as rational as many other languages, spelling can be difficult for language learners. As a result, listening to music can aid in developing English pronunciation by providing examples of pronouncing words and phrases with rhythm and intonation.

However, it would help if you used caution at times since artists may alter the sound of words. For example, a term with just two syllables may be changed to have three syllables in the song. We recommend using an online dictionary with an audio sample each time if you need more clarification.

6. Unwind, listen to your favorite music, and enjoy yourself!

We learn more effectively when we are in the correct frame of mind. We can concentrate better and recall more of what we have learned. Similarly, it might be beneficial to relax, switch on some music, and listen to (and perhaps sing) your preferred English songs.
